Training Course on 'Institutional Sectors' in Togo

In accordance with its 2015 Annual Work Plan and within the framework of the Statistical Capacity Building (StatCaB) Programme, SESRIC organised the training course on 'Institutional Sectors' at the General Directorate of Statistics and National Accounting (DGSCN) in Lome, Republic of Togo on 20-22 April 2015. The course was conducted by Mr. Mamadou Ngalgou Kane, Chief of the National Accounts Department at the National Agency of Statistics and Demography (ANSD) of Senegal with the participation of relevant officials of the DGSCN.

Institutional sectors group institutional units - economic entities that are capable, in their own right, of owning assets, incurring liabilities and engaging in economic activities and in transactions with other entities - by virtue of the similarities of their economic objectives, principal functions and behaviour. Resident institutional units that make up the total economy are grouped into the following five mutually exclusive institutional sectors:

  • Non-financial corporation’s sector
  • Financial corporation’s sector
  • Government sector
  • Non-profit institutions serving households sector
  • Households sector

The training course on 'Institutional Sectors' featured case studies and focused on the following topics:

  • Concept Overview
    • Institutional unit
    • Economic territory
    • Centre of economic interest, resident units
  • Categories of Institutional Sectors
    • Current accounts
    • Accumulation accounts

Case Study 1: Development of the sequence of accounts for non-financial corporations

Case Study 2: Development of the sequence of accounts for financial corporations
