The Plan of Action to Strengthen Economic Cooperation among the Member States of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference, adopted by the Third Islamic Summit Conference held in Makkah Al-Mukarramah/Taif, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, in January 1981, emphasised the need for the improvement, development and expansion of the information systems of the member states concerning technical cooperation as well as the establishment of a joint mechanism for the pooling of information within the Community on available resources and opportunities.

The Statistical, Economic and Social Research and Training Centre for Islamic Countries, a subsidiary organ of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC), has been publishing, since 1986, an annual bulletin on the "Training Opportunities in the Member Countries of the Organization of the Islamic Conference" which is also available in electronic format at the Centre’s web site (www.sesric.org).

The bulletin was based on the realisation that a more efficient and wider use of the training facilities existing in the member countries could be brought about by enabling individuals from certain member states to participate in the training programmes conducted by the institutions in other member states. Thus, the primary objective of the bulletin was and still is to provide detailed and timely information on training programmes and courses to be organised and conducted by various training institutions in the OIC member countries during the year following the publication of each issue of the bulletin.

Training Opportunities in OIC Countries is compiled using the information supplied by the institutions included in it. Responsibility for the accuracy of its contents rests with the institutions which supply the information. Also the contents of the bulletin are aimed mainly at providing information about the training programmes and they, therefore, cannot be construed as the expression of any opinion whatsoever on the part of the Ankara Centre and the Organisation of the Islamic Conference. Further enquiries relating to the training programmes listed in the bulletin should be addressed directly to the institutions concerned.
